Dee's obituary
A native of Atlanta Georgia, Dolores “Dee” Simpson Piercy passed away on September 24th, 2021, at the age of eighty-two.
She was born at Crawford Long Hospital and was a witness to the rapid growth of Atlanta. She graduated from West Fulton High School and later became a host coordinator for her prized West Fulton Owl Alumni Club. An avid reader, she pursued her passion as an English major at Oglethorpe University.
In the 1970s, she moved to the Edgemoor North community in Norcross, Georgia where she played ALTA Tennis for several years. Many of her neighbors became life-long friends and the combined families caravanned car after car on vacations to her favorite Florida destination, Navarre Beach.
In the late 1980's, Dee built a home and moved to her adopted hometown of Hiawassee, Georgia and the town quickly adopted her as well. She used to say being there made her feel closer to God. Dee was an influential member of the growing congregation at Hiawassee United Methodist Church and became an integral part of the construction of the church's new Worship Center. Dee was ever present on Sunday mornings as she welcomed family, friends, and neighbors to worship. She managed Hiawassee Discount Pharmacy where the staff became her extended family. She was a cherished figure in the community, touching so many lives in countless ways. She was extremely generous, always treating family and friends to so many wonderful things that life had to offer. From dinners at local favorites, weekend trips to her favorite southern cities, annual tickets to the long-running Young Harris College play,The Reach of Song and so much more. She could also always be found with several guests on Saturday nights, clapping and singing along to concerts at Anderson Music Hall, embracing her boundless love of music.
As much as she loved and lived life to the fullest, the arrival of her grandchildren became the greatest gift she could have ever dreamed of and it showed to all that knew her. She cherished her time with them most of all. There were many trips to Florida, hours spent at Hiawassee’s FunWorld, boating on Lake Chatuge, weekends at the Georgia Mountain Fair and birthday parties at Brasstown Resort. The three of them looked forward to every precious moment. At some point, in the midst of all their time together and the countless sleepovers, they lovingly named her home the "Big Blue House" which caught on quickly and others began calling it that as well.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dee was always eager to lend a helping hand and truly seemed to want to make life better for everyone around her, and she did just that. She will be forever missed but is the perfect Guardian Angel to us all.
Dee was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evelyn and Joseph McDuffie and her son, Bradley Benton Piercy, JR, "Ben". She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dee Anne and Clay McHann; sister, Val Waldrop; and grandchildren, Madeline Grace McHann and Bradley Benton Piercy, III, "Chip".
A memorial service will be held at Norcross First United Methodist Church, 2500 Beaver Ruin Rd, Norcross, GA 30071 on March 12th, 2022 at 1:00pm. Dee's beloved friend, Reverend Jim Blair will officiate.
