Dolores's obituary
Dolores Rose Fisher was born July 21, 1928 in Van Dyke, MI. She was the second daughter of nine children of Mike and Theresa (Piaescki) Fisher. She graduated from St. Benedict High School and then moved to Wayne, PA where she met and married the most handsome man she ever laid eyes on, John Joseph Fitzgerald Jr. She was a lifelong catholic - an active member of St. Katherine of Sienna Parish for many years. Once, she could no longer drive to St. Katherine church; she and Michael joined Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and walked to church six days a week. In Sacramento, she attended Holy Spirit Parish.
She was fiercely independent and ahead of her time – She got a job with TV Guide when many women stayed home with the kids. Ultimately, she retired from 1st Pennsylvania bank in 1993 after 20+ years.
Together with her husband, she was very active in church and community activities but loved time with family the most. She loved to travel, read, learn, and try new things even into her 90s. She visited CA multiple times even experiencing an earthquake. She loved telling stories especially about her family. Once she could now longer see to read; she started listening to audio books. She loved riding on the back of the tandem with her son-in-law Mike at the Jersey Shore or on the Lake Natoma Loop in Folsom, CA. After moving to Sacramento, she attended the YMCA and started doing aqua aerobics at age 90. She even gave belly dancing a try at a retirement party.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, John Joseph Fitzgerald Jr., she is survived by her 3 children, John (Diane) Fitzgerald , Michael Fitzgerald, and Barbara (Mike) Schoellkopf; 4 grandchildren, John Fitzgerald, Mia (Tom) Fries , Ian (Natalie) Fitzgerald, and Matt (Mariana) Allenson; 3 great grandchildren, Colin, Violet, and Weston; Her sisters Theresa Whiteman, Dorothy (Roger) Marion , and brother Gene (Edna) Fisher and; many nieces and nephews.. She will be deeply missed and will forever be a model to her loved ones for her independence, intelligence, fun loving spirit, and warmth.
