Djuka's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Djuka Damjanovic, who gently departed from this world on Tuesday, Spetmeber 16th. Djuka, a man of great character, was born on January 18, 1952. He is survived by his beloved wife, Luisa Barahona, whom he married in 1983, and their wonderful sons, Lucas and Nicolas Damjanovic.
Djuka embarked on an incredible journey from Bosnia & Herzegovina, arriving in the United States in 1970 at the age of 18 without knowing a word of English. Through strength of will and the sheer grit that exemplified his character, Djuka managed not only to establish a plowing business in Bosnia but also carve a successful career in the United States. He ended his journey as a renowned New England machinist at Dover Tool Co., retiring in 2014.
Despite being a vetran soldier in the Croatian army who drove a tank and that he once proudly drove a Camaro Z-28 directly from the showroom floor, Djuka was best remembered for his traits outside of being a farmer and outside the workplace. His was a personality that could be described as happy, yet grumpy; calculated, yet generous; prompt and considerate. It was his innate generosity and good moral values that will forever be his legacy.
Djuka was a man of simple pleasures. He was a regular viewer of the TV show "Law and Order" and was an avid fan of Chess as he loved the strtegy and focus the game demanded. Djuka was the epitome of a true gentleman who loved Fettuccine Alfredo and enjoyed sipping on Heineken. He could always be spotted from the crowd with his signature brown blazer and unassuming gold chain.
His greatest lesson to us all was not to judge and to always offer help where possible. He was an advocate for taking the high road, no matter how difficult the decision. Djuka will forever be remembered as a man who lived his life with integrity, loving his family, and upholding the values he held dear- all while doing it his way.
His legacy survives not only in the lives of his loved ones but also in the silent corners of his home where his intricate wood puzzles act as a testament to his brilliance and attention to detail. They were admired by friends and family alike. They serve as a testament to Djuka's patience and precision when completing any goal he set his mind to.
His remarkable journey, his accomplishments, and the values he stood for will remain an inspiration for all who had the privilege to know him.
