Dear Family and Friends,

What an honor to tell you that Dad continues to lead. He died at home surrounded by love and peace. Though cared for by two, he was always approached with each of you being with us. We know by grace and your prayers, it was you who held us up on eagles wings. We never saw him give up or quit. Even in his disability, his spirit, will, and spunk- determination showed up here. Ours was the challenge and privilege to walk and change each step as we do with young children. Through Grace, as he decreased, God increased in us, love, Mercy, tenderness to know, love and serve in ways we never knew we could.

We are planning a private memorial at our home (date TBA) and a Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rome, Georgia. After mass, our beloved husband and father will be buried at St. Mary's Garden Cemetery.

Don Richard Schlitz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Robert and Hazel Schlitz. After graduating from St. John Cathedral Catholic High School, he entered the Dominican and Salesian Religious Orders but later decided to serve God as a lay teacher instead. Don married his beloved wife Geraldine ("Gerry") Gauthier in 1961 while a teacher at St. John's grade school. He continued teaching until he and Gerry began their family in 1963.
