Diane's obituary

In Loving Memory of Diane Kay Simmons

Diane Kay Simmons (née Sheppard), of Dallas, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 22nd, at 8:45 p.m., surrounded by loved ones.

Diane was the cornerstone of her family. She was loved by friends and family alike.  She wore many hats—mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend— And she wore then on her own terms. A large part of her life was her work at Sunrise restaurant. It is a beloved fixture of the Charlotte community and Diane was a proud member of the original team that opened Sunrise in 1989. Hers was the first face seen by so many regulars for almost 30 years. Her work ethic and dedication was impeccable and she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by her Sunrise family and generations of patrons alike.

She is surely greeted in heaven by her grandsons, Colby and Tristan Allen, and her ever-faithful companion, Maxie.

Diane’s love will live on through her large family. She is survived by her four children, thirteen grandchildren,  four great children, her loving sister, and countless friends and extended family all of whom will forever cherish and miss  her warmth and  kindness. Always good for a laugh, she was definitely known for her humor. She was notoriously uninhibited and  she was nothing if not true to herself and her absence leaves behind a void as large as the life she lived.

Please join us as we honor her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 12th from 7:00 p.m.-9pm
