Dianne's obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Dianne Yvonne Miller Scott who left us on Oct 8, 2025. Dianne, a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington Class of 1960, was born on May 30, 1942 to William and Harriett Miller of Tulsa, Oklahoma who were the only black contractors involved in the rebuilding of Black Wall Street. She lived a life filled with love, compassion, and countless achievements. She was a beacon of warmth and laughter, her bubbly and humorous nature truly lit up every room she entered.
Dianne, an alumni of Texas Southern University and St. John Catholic School of Nursing at Kansas, was known for her unwavering commitment to the causes she held close to her heart. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Department of Surgery at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital system for 35 years. She won numerous awards for her heartfelt service to her patients.
Her life of caring wasn’t limited to her patients. As an avid volunteer and civil rights champion involved with the March of Dimes Foundation, Planned Parenthood, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and Depelchin Children’s Shelter, she had a deep sense of humanity and a desire to see a just world. Dianne was an active member at the Southbelt Church where she lent her time and energy to create a positive impact on her community.
Dianne was also a strong advocate of mission work. She sponsored several international missions and contributed to various scholarships to make sure children had an opportunity to get a higher education. Dianne truly embodied what love looks like, and she made sure to impart this lesson to those around her. Her legacy of caring for children and humanity will forever be etched in our hearts.
Her life was not just about work, Dianne immersed herself in the joys that life had to offer. She was an incredible woman who played seven different string instruments and loved to dance. She found solace in gospel music and enjoyed the occasional sitcom and 60 Minutes. She would humorously tease that she had a love for Steve Harvey and President Barack Obama that rivaled the love for her own husband. Dianne cherished spending quality time with her friends and each moment spent with her husband. She also held a fervor for traveling, with notable favorite destinations including San Diego, Niagara Falls and Hawaii.
Dianne is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Scott III and her children William IV, and daughter Yvondia. She also leaves behind her sibling, Adrian Miller and his wife, Jan Miller. In addition, she also leaves behind her in-laws: Edwin and Bertha Scott, JD and Toni Thornton, Maude Mitchell, and Vivan Dumas.
