Diane's obituary
Diane Pattee, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Middletown, Connecticut.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on November 20, 1941, to Floyd Pattee and Elizabeth “Betty” Pattee Snow, Diane lived a life full of beauty, adventure, kindness, and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Danny Pattee, and her son William Grimm.
She is lovingly survived by her children, James Grimm and Agnes Durst; her siblings Muffin Darling, Ginni Treadwell, Sherrill Pattee, Trisha Kaik, and David Pattee; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren—each of whom she cherished and often spoke of with pride and affection.
A gifted artist, Diane worked in painting, stained glass, jewelry, leatherwork, and many other mediums. She won several awards for her pieces. She generously shared her creations with friends and family. Her handmade pieces are treasured heirlooms, each infused with her love, creativity, and giving spirit. She had a generous heart—many recall complimenting her jewelry, only to have her take it off and gift it to them on the spot.
Diane had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found foraging for wild edibles, a skill she passed on to younger generations. Even in her later years, she preferred walking home from appointments and enjoying the beauty of the world around her. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—shopping at farmers markets, savoring Vermont maple syrup and fresh Maine lobster, or watching the scenery go by from a car or train window.
A true explorer at heart, she often said, “Give me a ticket and I’ll go anywhere.” She made solo cross-country trips—by car or train—just to see the sights and visit those she loved.
She loved country music, singing in her church choir, and was a devoted fan of The Lord of the Rings and the Twilight saga. A woman of warmth and deep faith, Diane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her handmade Christmas and birthday cards were a special joy to receive—each one thoughtfully crafted with her unique touch.
Diane’s laughter was infectious, and her love for family, friends, and pets (especially cats) was unmistakable. She had a favorite saying: “People say ‘Have a good day’ … I like to say, ‘MAKE it a good day.’” And that’s how she lived—intentionally, warmly, and with an open heart.
Her family expresses their deepest gratitude to all those who supported Diane through the years. A special thanks goes to the O’Reilly family for their boundless love and compassion, especially during the last few months of her life. Your kindness has been a profound blessing. We are also incredibly thankful to the medical personnel who cared for Diane with such dedication.
