Diane's obituary

Diane Carol Frisbie was born August 10, 1943, the youngest of three daughters of Henry and Opal Maager, originally from Delavan WI. She was born in Delavan and spent some of her teenage years working at her family-owned resort on Wood Lake outside of Westfield WI. She attended Westfield High School where she met and fell in love with her husband-to-be Douglas Frisbie.

Diane's husband Doug was a career US Marine Corps officer. During his remote deployments and their frequent moves, she devoted her time and energy creating a loving and stable home in which to raise their three children, Robin, Ian, and Megan. Family was Diane's prime focus, and her devotion continued to include being deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren.

Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Diane and Doug lived in Annapolis MD, Gainesville FL, and Vicksburg MI before settling in Bedford VA in 2006, establishing a home they called Bonnie Brae, a self-sustaining farm and family retreat.

An exceptionally talented quilter, seamstress, and knitter, Diane enjoyed collecting dolls, designing and selling doll clothing and creating beautiful quilts and knitted treasures for her family and friends. She too was a wonderful cook and, as an avid reader and book lover, volunteered at the community library.

Diane cultivated strong bonds with friends, leaving no doubt that they were loved and appreciated. As her best friend Karla put it , "Diane was insightful, tenacious, courageous, and honest" as well as being "unassuming, calming, shy, and helpful". Nothing mattered more to her than nurturing her relationships with family and friends.

Diane passed away May 23, 2014 in the Bedford County Hospital surrounded by her family after a long struggle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her passing was several weeks before she and Doug would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Diane is survived by her husband Douglas David Frisbie (Bedford, VA), and her children Robin Leslie Brown (Powhatan, VA), Megan Jean Eckman (Annapolis, MD), Ian Douglas Barclay Frisbie (Middletown, DE), her grandchildren Robert, Lucas, Lindsey, Gillian, Daphne, Georgia, and Reed, and her sisters Betty Pauls (Bolingbrook, IL) and Kathleen Koehn (Summerville, OR), her father-in-law Varge Frisbie, and her best friend Karla Homich (Mathews, VA). She was preceded in death by her grandson Douglas Brown in 2012, her mother-in-law Esther Frisbie, and her father and mother, Henry and Opal Maager.
