Diane's obituary
In Loving Memory of Diane M. Clayborne
Sunrise: November 4, 1951 – Sunset: May 24, 2025
Diane Margaret Clayborne, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life peacefully although unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2025. She was 73 years old.
Diane was born on November 4, 1951, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Catherine Shorter and James Leake. At the age of 7, her mother passed away unexpectedly and her beloved aunt Mimi (deceased, 1994) took on the responsibility of raising Diane and her three brothers as her own. It was through that experience that her resilient nature began to take shape, forging in her a deep strength and determination that would carry her through life’s many challenges with grace and unwavering spirit. In 1970, Diane completed her secondary education at Henry Snyder High School and continued her studies at Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University). She began her career that same year as an accounting clerk in New York City and went on to work in the banking and insurance industries for many years. In 2016, after more than 20 years of dedicated service, she retired from her clerical position with the New Jersey Secretary of State – Records Department.
A devoted Christian woman, Diane was a longtime member of Saints’ Memorial Community Church, where she served faithfully on the Board of Trustees, in addition to various committees and ministries that supported both the church and the community. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived with grace, generosity, and a notable strength that resonated with everyone she met.
Diane loved to travel and was especially fond of cruise vacations that she took yearly with her husband, cousins and friends. She had a friendly spirit and loved to dance, often lighting up a room with her energy. She had an extensive wardrobe and was always dressed to impress - especially for church and special occasions.
To her family and friends, she was known for her wittiness, her strong will, and her big heart. Many times vocal about her observations and critiques, she always spoke her truth with love, and always encouraged others to be true to themselves. Diane was a protector and nurturer that gave generously of her time and affection to those she loved. So much so, she moved to California to help raise her two grandsons who lost their father in an accident. Her family, children and grandchildren were some of the greatest joys of her life.
Diane’s life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and resilience. Despite the challenges life threw her way, she never complained. Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that she is now resting in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly. Her legacy will continue in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dexter Clayborne; her loving children, Tameekia “Tami” Robins (Rick, deceased) and Dexter Clayborne Jr.; and her cherished grandchildren, Arielle Pergerson, Deshaun Clayborne, Malakai Robins, Gavin “Mateo” Robins, Daimir Clayborne, and Rhys Glover. Brothers, William Jordan (Janice), Robert Jordan (Pamela), Donald Jordan; and sister, Linda Parker (Keith). Nieces, Elyse Gibbs (Shelton), Monique Carter, Ashlea Stedford (Richard), Rakia Pardue (LaRance), Sharonda Jordan; and nephews, Robert Jordan, Rashad Jordan (Kiara), Donald Jordan Jr., Stefan Jordan, and Tyler Parker. She will also be missed deeply by extended family, church family, and friends who were like family in New Jersey, California, and North Carolina.
