Diane's obituary
On May 13, 2025, Diana "Diane" Bernadette Gross passed away at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. A light to all who knew her, Diane brought warmth, kindness, and an open heart to every room she entered.
Born in Pennsylvania on April 28, 1946, Diane lived a vibrant life rooted in compassion and community. She married John “Jack” Gross, and together they raised two sons, eventually settling in Minerva, New York, where they ran a cozy and welcoming bed and breakfast. Their home was always open—not only to guests, but also to the many friends of their sons, Dean and John, who found comfort and acceptance under Diane’s roof.
Diane took great pride in her sons and their accomplishments—John’s service in the U.S. Coast Guard and Dean’s success in the IT field filled her with pride. But it was her role as “Nana” that brought her the most joy. She shared a special bond with each of her grandchildren: teaching Lexi (13) the fundamentals of accounting with patient pride; delighting in Sophia’s (8) performances filled with dance, song, and imagination; and cheering on John “JJ” (5) as he excelled in sports and school. Her guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love will echo in their lives forever.
Diane had a sharp mind and a generous spirit—qualities she shared freely with her nephew, William “Billy” Bresnahan, as she supported his business endeavors with her accounting expertise. She was known for her sense of humor, and her fierce hugs. She enjoyed a competitive game of pinochle and frequent trips to the casino. Whether singing along to Prince or country music, watching her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, or getting caught up in an episode of NCIS, Diane embraced life's joys with enthusiasm.
She is survived by her brother, William Bresnahan, Sr., her sons, John Gross and Dean Gross, and their wives, Katy and Mia; her stepdaughter, Kimmy Gross; her cherished grandchildren, Lexi, Sophia, and JJ Gross, and Michael, Eric, and Nicky White; and her nephew, William Bresnahan, Jr., and his wife Marie.
Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Gross; her partner, Phil Yarros; her siblings, Thomas Bresnahan and Mary Rita Zielinski; and her parents, William J. Bresnahan and Sophie Hermanowicz.
Though her absence is deeply felt, Diane’s legacy lives on in the memories she created, the values she instilled, and the love she gave so freely. Her life was a gift, and all who knew her were better for it.
A Celebration of Diane’s Life will be held at a later date.
