Dettra's obituary

On Monday, March 18, 2019, Dettra Moore, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, went home to her final resting place at the age of 75 years. Born in Austin, Texas on July 5, 1944 and raised in San Luis Obispo, Ca. to Wilbur Owens Sr. and Alma Marie Hunter, she is preceded in death by an older brother Wil Owens Jr., survived by two younger siblings, brother Blaine Owens and sister, Kendra Owens and two sons Booker Theodore Moore Jr. and Anthony Joseph Moore. She is also survived by a granddaughter, AmandaLyn Rain Wayland, nephew, Rashawn Kamal Owens and nieces Adrienne Muller and Christina Claire Donahue.

She was known for being a surrogate mom to many, providing meals and necessary pickups to kids in the neighborhood. She was also known for her house parties on New Year's, which included her delicious cooking and addictive charm.

She moved back to the Central Coast in the 1990's to be closer to her ailing mother and eventually settled in Los Osos, Ca. where she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Although wheelchair bound, Dettra was known for being an independent woman and this disease was not going to keep her down. She remained vibrant and very much her playful self: flipping people off, cursing them out and turning around to inform them she wanted the jacket off their back. She maintained a household independently for herself for almost 19 years.

A Celebration of Dettra’s life will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at The Novo Restaurant, 726 Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo, Ca.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests charitable contributions in memory of
Dettra Moore be made to the: National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY, 10163.
