Derrick's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Derrick Lamar Johnson, who lost his battle to liver cancer on June 29, 2025. Born on August 2, 1973, and often fondly referred to as Pap Diggity Dog, by his step children, led a life that was as vibrant and spirited as he was.
Loved for his sense of humor, outspoken nature, and protective instincts, Derrick was a shining example of selflessness, caring, and generosity. He was playful and never failed to bring joy to the room. Derrick was not only a beloved father and husband but was also an adored grandfather. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and he will always be remembered for the unconditional love he showered upon them.
Derrick is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Mrs. Debbie Johnson, his heartened son, Isaiah Washington, his adored daughter, Tamia Corbett, his beloved mother, Kathy Johnson, and his respected brother, Antonio Dixon. He is also survived by a host of aunts and uncles that he loved dearly, his grandchildren that he adored more than anything, his cherished stepchildren, Danielle, Justin, Tracy, and Raphael Walton.
A man of simple pleasures, Derrick found comfort in his favorite food Ox tails and rice with a Sweet Tea, and he loved his Bud Ice. He was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and loved playing Monopoly with his family. For Derrick, nothing beat the melody of a good song, the laughter of his family and friends, and playing with his grandchildren.
His life lessons are a testament to his strong faith and empathy for others. Derrick always emphasised the importance of prayer and keeping God first. He also encouraged kindness and respect towards everyone as he believed we could never fully understand the battles someone else was facing.
Derrick leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, which will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. His jovial spirit, love for his family, and capacity for kindness will be missed every day. The void created by his departure can never truly be filled, but we find comfort knowing that he is at peace and watching over us from above.
