Derrick's obituary

Derrick P. Coleman Affectionately known to his family and friends as "Dukane ", of Gary, passed away on November 19, 2021 at Methodist Hospital (Northlake) at the age of 41 after a sudden illness. He was born on October 16, 1972 in Madisonville, Kentucky to Thomas C. Harris and Mary O. Harris. Teresa was preceded in death by his mother, Mary O. Harris; uncle, Robert Martin; aunt, Beverly Martin; grandfather, NaDaniel Harris and grandmother Mattie Kirkwood. He graduated from William A. Wirt High School class of 1991. He was employed at Miller's Merry Manor for 17 years and Regency Hospital for 2 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where he forged many bonds with co-workers, patients and their families. His greatest love and devotion in life was to her children and grandchildren. His ability to love was evident in his infectious laugh that resonated across any room he was in. His kind spirit allowed him to touch the hearts of all those who knew him. A true giver at heart, he was always willing to help. Derrick leaves to cherish his loving memories, his father, Thomas C. Harris Sr.; his lifelong partner, Teresa L. Harris.; five sons, Derrick P. Coleman III, De'Vonte Harris, Devin Harris, Dayonne Coleman, Damon Coleman; 2 daughters, Dereka Coleman and Davaria Coleman; 2 grandchildren, Devonte Harris Jr. and Darria Coleman; 1 brother, Thomas (Kimberly) Harris Jr.,; 8 sisters, YouLonda Harris; Sonja (Treymain) Lewis, Pamela (Donald) May, Shonda Harris, Raquel Harris, Angela Harris, Billy Jean Harris, Rozana (Wilbert) Lipscomb; aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation Friday, November 26th, 12:00p.m-8:00p.m. Family hour 6:00-8:00p.m. Funeral Service Saturday, November 27th 2021 at 11:00a.m. all at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
