Derrick Barnes, known to his friends as “Barney,” passed away on November 4, 2019 at the age of 57.

A native of Espanola, Derrick was an outdoorsman who loved fishing. He always managed to have a story about how the big one got away. He was also a handyman who loved to tinker and macgyver projects. Although Derrick followed his own path, he always remained spiritual. He loved his family and valued his true friends and was always willing to lend a hand. There is a special place in our hearts for the one we call brother and friend.

Dear son of the late Omer and Maureen (nee Belanger) Barnes. He will be dearly missed by long time companion Jackie Swain. Loving brother of Darwin and Darrell (predeceased), Debbie Patrie (Donny) of Massey and Darla Lautamus (Paul) of Sudbury. Remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Exceptional health care provided by Dr. Kimberley Perlin and staff at the Espanola Regional Hospital, equally as amazing care by Danielle Drouin, nurse practitioner and the team and volunteers at Maison McCulloch Hospice.

A mass and burial to be held in the spring. In honour of his memory, we ask that you to pay it forward and perform an act of kindness.
