Caitlin I’m so incredibly sorry about the loss of your husband, Derek. All my love to you, your daughter, and your family.

I met Derek only 2 years ago but it somehow feels like I've known him for decades.  I think that's largely because he reminds me so much of my own brothers that we just kind of hit it off right away.  He also just had this almost gravitational energy about him that just made it so easy to talk to him.

Derek was truly an exceptional person and I'll treasure the time I had with him.   Particularly those rare opportunities we got to meet in person and go out for coffee or drinks and just chat about our families, interests, or thoughts about the world.  I'm going to miss him and my heart goes out to Caitlin and Tilly.

I did not know Derek well but worked with him. He was generous with his time and went above and beyond to give a presentation to my team. I noticed his memorabilia in the background and messaged him afterwards to chat about some of the games he liked. He offered to send me one of his limited edition collectibles, which I politely declined since it is a rare collectible! I think this sentiment showed that Derek was a generous and warm person even to those he did not know very well.

I had a great time working with Derek on cover art and other marketing materials during my time at Striking Distance/Krafton. Derek had such a great understanding of the work we were making together; I was truly impressed with his skill and intellect. His personality, kindness and humility made our collaboration so easy and enjoyable. I am truly stunned by the news, and hoping the best for his family, friends and coworkers during this time. My prayers go out for all those people close to Derek.

Having been on numerous slacks, calls, and video conferences over the past two years, I never had the privilege to meet Derek in person. What I do know is that throuh our interactions he was intelligent, passionate, compassionate, hard working, and extremely kind. His support to our work was so incredible that we often sought him out for advice on how to deal with many situations. And he always came through. I'll miss our conversations. Thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I was deeply saddened to learn of Derek’s untimely passing.  I worked with him at Bethesda on the DOOM games.  He was funny, engaging and radiated positive energy.  It’s not every day in our business that you get to interact with a metalhead who has a PHD in cultural studies and is passionate about marketing video games.  My deepest sympathies go out to his family and everyone else who considered him a friend. The world lost someone special.
