Sage and Derek by the fire

Derek was a great person and a great neighbor. He was someone who would offer to help people and always had a big smile. I feel a great loss for our little community as he seemed to be the pillar. He was always kind to our kids who run through his yard and invite themselves over on a daily basis haha. He always welcomed them and made them feel a part of things. He was an amazing and devoted Father and was always looking out for our neighbourhood gaggle of kids. My whole family is heartbroken and feel a great appreciation that we had the opportunity to get to know him. We are sending all our love to his whole family.

My condolences to his family and friends 🙏
I am so sorry for your family's loss. Marla and Derek were so kind to my daughter a few years ago when she was going through a difficult time. I am thinking of you all.
Shocked and very saddened by this   my empathy to you  the extended family..
Derek was one  of the 1st people I met when I moved to Duncan .  He was was kind and generous. He always treated  me my like his sister .  He was very Protective and was like my family ( as I had none which he knew ) . It’s rare to meet someone that has so much respect and goodness of others and Derek is one the rarest !❤️❤️

My deepest condolences to all the family. I am very saddened to hear this  heartbreaking news of Derek's passing. We go back as good friends. We shared countless nights of cheers and getting into mischief, his brother Luke was also with us. I have many stories and cherished memories of Derek. He was truly a good friend.

Rest in Peace my friend 🧡

I am heartbroken to hear about Derek. Though I never had the privilege of meeting him, the love and warmth that emanated from him, even just through FB, painted a picture of a truly remarkable man who touched the lives of many. Sending lots of love and thinking of all who loved Derek ❤🙏🕊
we  all thinking of your family... its too sad   too soon ..sending all our love from all the kew families.
Our deepest condolences  to you Marla and family.Doug and Angela❤️

I’ve been a longtime friend of Derek’s since my Kindergarten days with his brother Luke. He was always there for me, especially during the toughest times in my life. His knack for knowing just what to say, combined with his positive outlook, was a constant reminder that everything would be okay. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed him find true love, and I’m grateful to have Marla as a dear friend now. Being part of their wedding was truly a blessing.

One memorable moment that stands out is when we used to frequent the Bay Pub. One night, Derek was resting his eyes at his favorite spot at the end of the bar. The police approached him and asked the bartender, “What’s up with this guy?” The bartender quickly replied, “He’s just texting,” and they moved on. Miller and I couldn’t stop laughing as we scratched our heads over that one!

I’ll miss Red’s simple texts that started with “Wul,” followed by a picture of a nice bottle of wine. We shared countless cheers together. I had the privilege of witnessing the way he loved and cherished Hattie. He was truly meant to be a father, and I was so proud of the protector and dad he became.

I have so many stories and cherished memories of Derek. I will miss him deeply and wasn’t ready for him to go. I had so much more life to share with my good friend. It feels like we’ve all been robbed, but I want to say he will forever hold a place in my heart. Rest in peace, my dear friend. I hope they serve Lucky in heaven!

Wul… I raise my glass to this terrific man and amazing friend. Miss you, bud!

I had the privilege of working with Derek on my property falling trees off and on for a couple months.

A gentle, honest and generous man is how best I describe him.

Very sorry for everyone's loss.

RIP Big Red ♥️

Our deepest condolences to you Marla, Hailey, Luke, Hannah and Justin. There no words to help with this loss. Your love and dedication to each other, your family and friends was so beautiful.  Derrick was truly an amazing person who showed his love and generosity to all.
