Dennis's obituary
Dennis Michael Hill, a beloved son, brother, stepfather, and grandfather passed away on February 4th, 2024 in Yerington, Nevada. He was born on August 3rd, 1944 in Reno, Nevada to Dennis and Louise Hill.
Mike’s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to education and service. As a young man growing up in Reno, he excelled both academically and athletically. He served as the team captain of Manogue High School's basketball team and was elected senior class president before graduating as valedictorian of his class.
His pursuit of knowledge led him to Yale University where he graduated with honors. Following his graduation from Yale, Mike joined the Peace Corps and dedicated himself to serving others in North Africa. This experience ignited a passion for travel and cultural exchange that would shape the rest of his life.
Throughout his life, Mike lived in a variety of impressive locales including Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Washington D.C., where he taught English as a second language at an inner-city high school. His dedication to fostering understanding across cultures left an indelible impact on those whose lives he touched.
In addition to being an educator and world traveler, Mike cherished time spent with family. He is survived by his sister Denise (Gifford) Parlet; stepdaughter Anne (Jon); grandchildren Joe , Emma ,and Josie; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ingrid Hill, stepdaughter Marie (Jon) and
sister Kathleen (Tony).
Mike’s passing has left a void that cannot be filled but we take solace knowing that his legacy lives on through the countless lives he impacted throughout his lifetime.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Pioneer Mobile Park in Yerington, Nevada on Saturday August 3, 2023 at 5 pm.
