Dennis's obituary
Dennis T. Wong (77) of Martinez CA, passed away after battling diabetic complications.
Dennis, eldest of six boys, was born in Oahu to Bow and Jennie . He grew up in San Francisco. Afterwards he attended Monterey Bay Academy while toying with audio-visual gear and chemicals. These led him to a bachelor’s in chemistry from Pacific Union College. Later, he met Jean, a botany grad student also studying at Oregon State University, Corvallis where he completed a Master of Science in chemistry.
Dennis's naval radiochemistry internships helped him to join the Atomic Energy Commission. Within six years as an acquisitions subject matter expert, he finished a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park. A zenith of his 27-years with the U.S. Department of Energy was as Deputy Director of its Livermore Office overseeing regulated activities at Lawrence Livermore National Lab. He would later advise lab management primarily as a Principal Cybersecurity Engineer fulfilling a diverse variety of security and safety roles with M.H. Chew & Associates for nearly 28 years.
Dennis adaptively invested in his kids: private elementary education thru subsidized post graduate studies, art and music lessons, math camp and science trips, all for lifelong learning. Like other dads, he shadowed his kids’ radio licenses and IT certifications. He enjoyed collecting tools, cycling, shopping, skiing, hypermiling cars and reuniting with extended family. He volunteered in audio-visual support, sponsored missionaries, and teamed with other parents to build a school gym. He served on church board committees such as finance and would later chair the board of Pleasant Hill Junior Academy after helping in other roles.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Jean (married for 53 years); three kids; four grandkids; three brothers; and more cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, if you choose, any contributions may be made in his memory to the Pleasant Hill SDA Church.
His memorial service will be 10 AM on July 10, 2022 at 800 Grayson Rd, Pleasant Hill, CA.
The family kindly requests that prospective attendees test for COVID-19 prior to attending and mask indoors to help protect immunocompromised attendees.
