Uncle Dennis, you will be missed so much. Your great sense of humor and jokes have given us so many amazing and hilarious memories, I will cherish them forever. You were an amazing brother for my Dad. A couple years ago when you flew to Connecticut for my Dad after his neck injury, that was such an amazing, generous and classic Uncle Dennis thing to do for his “brudder.” Thank you for all the memories and you will forever be loved. My condolences to Aunt Kathy, Justin, Ryan and their families. Love you all so much and my thoughts and prayers will be with all of you.
I will always remember the first time I met Dennis. I was almost 8 years old and my family was moving back to Connecticut from Texas. We arrived just in time for my cousin Kathy’s wedding to Dennis. He danced with me at the reception and made me laugh so hard. I instantly loved him! I don’t see how anyone he met couldn’t. Dennis was so caring and extremely funny!! There was no way you couldn’t laugh in his presence. Dennis, Kathy, Ryan, and Justin (and their families) have always held a special place in my heart and always will! My love to you all!
I am so sorry for your loss. He was very loved. At Christmas he hid in the closet at my parents house, just waiting for someone to be putting stuff away. Well that someone was me and he scared the shit out of me. He loved it. Every time after that when I saw him he loved to remind me of that! Loved his funny sense of humor! He will be missed dearly!

Uncle Dennis was one of a kind. To know him was to love him. He always had us in tears with his witty humor and could always make you laugh no matter what the occasion was. He loved to take pictures of everyone and everything, had great taste in music, and made a mean cocktail sauce. We will keep all the fun memories that we have of him close to our hearts forever. He will be missed so very much by all.
I have been Dennis's patient for almost forty years for difficult back issues, shoulder rehab and bilateral hip rehab after replacements. He literally kept me functioning and mobile. I adored his sense of humor. He was a bright light in the universe and I will miss him always. Be at peace, dear Dennis.
I was many of his lucky patients. Instead of dying, God would say “No, you have to treat Janet Ali!” He always used humor, but he cared so much!
I will remember Dennis and his son, Justin, forever.
My sincere condolences to his family and his staff.
Janet

Dennis and Kathy's love for AZ and many locations on the West Coast is what steered my husband Marty and I to move out west. We have visited Dennis and Kathy multiple times since 1983 and Dennis shared his love for the Grand Canyon with us. In 1983,Den introduced us to his life of adventures. He, having to leave kathy back in Phx due to her being very pregnant and expecting the arrival of Ryan any time, took Marty, myself (six months pregnant),our two children (Michelle and Greg), and Justin all three under five at the time and ventured to Nogales Mexico in his Volvo with no air conditioning in the heat of August. It was a trip we will never forget. We ate authentic mexican food in a restaurant built on the side of a cave. Visited a Monastery, and Old Tucson, where we saw where the show High Chaparrel was filmed, and got to see the train used in the Wild Wild West Show. Had our first of many experiences in seeing Cowboys have a shoot out in the Wild West. During the trip Marty and I experienced the beauty and awesomeness of the Grand Canyon, and each time we have gone back since understand why this is one of Dennis's favorite spots to visit. Dennis, Kathy, Marty and I have had wonderful memories of times spent together: San Diego Ca, where we saw the Midway Battleship; spent relaxing trips to Silver City New Mexico at "The Cottages" and B&B Bear Mountain Lodge. Dennis introduced us to the beauty of Gorges, Cliff Walks, and exploring hidden caves. But the best times of all were when we just hung out on weekends by their pool and drank, ate and enjoyed playing with Kiley their dog tossing the ball in the pool for her to fetch, or swimming with their beautiful grand-daughters.
Everytime I look at my front door, I can still picture Dennis strolling through our door in Gold Canyon, and heading right for the fridge or pantry to see what goodies I had made for their weekend excursions to our home.
We saw Dave Mason together at the Talking Stick Casino. When I tried to introduce him to the fine arts and took him to plays in Scottsdale, I had to keep waking him up as I watched his head bob up and down.
I will miss his busting me about whether or not a dish I served him food on was "Moms". But I would give it right back to him and say " Yeah but you have the orange juicer and the meat grinder". I will also miss making him our family french tradition dishes at Christmas that he loved. I enjoyed cooking him favorite family traditions over the past 10 years since we moved to AZ. I in turn will miss his famous Beef Brisket and wonderful Shrimp Cocktail sauce. He had a knack with both.
Everytime I hear the band Chicago, I will remember the front row seats we had at Encanterra and the four of us jamming to their music. Dennis, Kathy, Marty and I went to a concert with a longtime friend from the past (Kathy LaPlante Graver and her husband Jeff) where we saw Chicago, Kenny Logins and the Doobie Brothers perform. We had the best time that night. Brought back so many memories from High School.
I can still hear Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, Bob Seiger or Van Mossison booming through the speakers of his stereo box as well.
I will always hold on to the many memories of all the wonderful times we shared together. His humor, his kindness and caring touch with me when I was hurting, his sarcasm and teasing, and the bond that we have shared as kids, in high school and throughout our lives will always be remembered with love.

The greatest people I've known were gifted in their profession, resolute in their purpose, tender hearted in nature, and generous of spirit. They were extraordinary beings because through their lives they made others lives better. Those words epitomize Dennis St. James. His gift was healing. His joy was his family. Jesus once told his disciples that the greatest commandments were to love God and love your neighbor as much as yourself. Dennis did so very well and I know I'll see him again in the place God has prepared for him. 'Til then Dennis, we'll miss you!
