Dennis's obituary

Dennis Morgan Brooks

January 1, 1956 – October 17, 2025

Dennis Morgan Brooks, 69, of Athens, Alabama, passed away on October 17, 2025.

Dennis began playing the drums at just four years old, and from there, music became the rhythm of his life. He joined Dexter and His Derbies at the age of nine, the first of many bands he would play with on stages big and small across the United States. He was a gifted musician all around, he somehow managing to master nearly every instrument he touched, turning each one into a voice of its own. Music was his language, and he shared it freely with everyone around him

He also loved to spend hours at a time on his ham radio set, connecting with people near and far — another way he built friendships that lasted a lifetime. There was no denying his fascination with taking complicated things apart, and somehow, he almost always managed to put them back together working better than before.

A man of deep Christian faith, Dennis lived with kindness, patience, and quiet strength. He loved his family and friends deeply and was known for his gentle heart and easygoing nature. Those who knew him best will remember a man who never met a stranger and rarely raised his voice, even when life gave him reasons to.

He is survived by his daughter, Brittany Danielle Brooks, who was the light of his life; his grandson, Corbin Simmons; his sisters, Anita Southard and Debbie Rouse; his nephews, Barry Craig, and Chris Craig; and his cousins, Aleisa Brooks and Tracy Brooks.

Plans to celebrate Dennis’s life will be shared at a later date. His family invites everyone who knew him to remember him through the music he loved, the faith he lived, and the kindness he showed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made toward Dennis’s final expenses and celebration of life through his memorial page on EverLoved: everloved.com/life-of/dennis-…
