Dennis's obituary

Dennis Anthony Hunte, 77, of Fall River, MA, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Born on January 18, 1948, in Point Fortin, Trinidad & Tobago.

Rev. Leader Dennis Hunte was a man whose life reflected unwavering service, deep faith, and a profound love for family.

As a pastor for over 50 years, he dedicated his life to helping saints come to Christ. His ministry was one of helping the homeless and aiding the deprived and underserved communities. His love for community was evident in the way he cherished his family and the close bonds he formed with his church family. A graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI), he had a distinguished career as an administrator at Boston University, where he made significant contributions to the academic community. His deep faith shone through in his leadership at the Mt. Carmel Spiritual Baptist Church, where he nurtured and taught his congregation with the same passion for learning and guidance that defined his career as a teacher.

Cooking was one of Dennis’ deepest joys, a way he expressed care, love, and creativity. His brilliant mind shone through in his talent for chess, and he nurtured his love of the arts through literature, painting, classical music, and the timeless sounds of old-school Kaiso. The thing that he cherished the most was reminding anyone he met about the goodness and the glory of God. Above all, his heart was rooted in Scripture- he read his Bible each day and found comfort and inspiration in listening to sermons online.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (Matthews) Hunte, and by his cherished in-laws, Jennylyn Peters, Angela Charles, Lynette Matthews, Gemma Rogers, Gloria Matthews, and Mickey Matthews, and their significant others. He leaves behind his devoted daughters: Sherraine Diaz, Kelly Allong-Alves, Kariam Hunte-Richards, and Cirisha Hunte, as well as his many loving nieces and nephews, Sheldon Charles, Stacianne Goodridge, Kwame Matthews, Wole Matthews, Isha Matthews, Simone Charles Ogbebor, Brian Rogers, Jason Moore, Quincy Matthews, and Kimbia Rogers and their significant others. His legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren: Kamira Hunte, Javon Conward, ShaiAnn Greene, Ashley Glover, Aaron Alves, Angelina Glover, Adrian Alves, Kyle Conward, Christopher Glover, and Anthony Alves. He is also lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren, Xavier Hunte, Aiyana Hunte, Zakai Hunte, and Ayla DeOliveira.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, the late Clarence Hunte and Veronica (Joseph) Hunte.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with a funeral service starting at 10:00 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River.

Procession to Swan Point Cemetery and Crematory to follow.

In keeping with his generous spirit, the family asks that donations be made to First Step Inn, Fall River, MA https://steppingstoneinc.org/… or United Way of Greater Fall River https://uwgfr.org/ PO Box 2550, Fall River, MA 02722, or Saint Ann's Spiritual Baptist Church of Boston, MA in his memory.

Forever remembered, forever cherished by those who loved him, resting now in the arms of the Lord.
