Dennis Ray England
(February 5, 1954 – January 29, 2023)
Dennis Ray England, 68, went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2023 after a long battle with lung cancer. Dennis was surrounded by loved ones during his last days.
Dennis was born in Creston, Iowa, on February 5, 1954, to June England Goins and Everett “Speck” England. He grew up in Clearfield, Iowa, was one of six children, and attended Clearfield High School. His love for a good horse started at a young age with Tina, Rowdy, and Gringo/Buck. In his younger years he was known as Dirty Dingus Magee the bass guitarist in a four piece band, Incognito. Dennis also earned the name, Dad, to his three daughters, Jessica, Sunny, DeeDee.
Later, in 1985, Dennis moved to Texas for a career opportunity. His love for good horses continued as did his Cowboy ways. Dennis was a member of the USTRC; Bonehead and Homie were a couple of his most talked about rope horses. Dennis could be found team roping, taking up new hobbies or working. As for his career, he worked for McKinney Drilling Company for 30 years and retired in 2020 as a Superintendent. Those that were well liked and loved by Dennis were given a nickname (sometimes multiple), he too had multiple nicknames. He also was an avid enthusiast of the weekly crossword puzzles in the local Star-Telegram newspaper.
Dennis is survived by wife, Linda England, his daughters Jessica Kreps, Sunny England, DeeDee England, Jenny Pennock, sons Garry Layton Jr., James England, and 16 grandchildren. His brothers Terry England, Jake England, sister Tammy Carmichael, and an abundance number of nieces and nephews.
Dennis is proceeded in death by his mother June England Goins, father Everett “Speck” England, sister Carol Ann Kinder, brother Robert England, daughter Tia England, and nephew Matthew Samo.
To celebrate Dennis’s wit and love for a good time, a celebration of life will be held February 19th in Burleson, Texas.
