DENNIS's obituary
Dennis Demetrius Carter Sr., a man whose warmth, passion, and presence left an unforgettable mark on every heart he touched. Born on March 18, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, Dennis was the beloved son of Dorothy Carter and James Stokes. On July 13, 2025, at the age of 54, Dennis transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy full of love, laughter, good food, and strong family ties.
Dennis accepted Christ at an early age. His faith was personal—quiet but real. In his later years, Dennis faithfully attended Unity Gospel House of Prayer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, under the leadership of Pastor Marlon Lock. He loved the Word, the worship, and the fellowship. His walk with God was sincere, and even in private, he held on to his faith and leaned into it as his anchor through life’s ups and downs.
Dennis was more than a father—he was a comforter, a storyteller, a helper, and a light in dark places. His presence was calming, and his love for family was strong and steady.
He had a deep love for cooking. That passion became his purpose. Dennis worked as a sous chef, putting care, creativity, and soul into every dish he made. But he wasn’t finished dreaming—he was preparing to become a head chef, determined to sharpen his craft and eventually run his own kitchen. He believed in feeding people’s hearts as much as their stomachs, and his food reflected the love he carried in his spirit.
Dennis was also employed as a car detailer, where he combined his love for vehicles with his natural attention to detail. Cars were more than machines to him—they were art. Whether he was working under the hood, polishing a fresh shine, or talking about custom builds, Dennis found peace and joy in cars. It was one more way he shared his gifts with the world.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories.
Cherishing his life and holding him forever in their hearts are: his mother Dorothy Carter, and his father James Stokes; his beloved son: Dennis Damonte Carter Jr; his daughters: Roquena Carter and Brianna Morgan; nine beautiful grandchildren who brought him so much joy; his brothers: Michael Carter, Reginald Carter, and Patrick Carter; his sisters: Latanya Carter and Laverne Carter; his aunts: Kimberly Fuller and Janet Carter; his former wife and dear friend, Jennifer Carter and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who were blessed to know him.
Dennis lived a life that was rich in love, full of flavor, and always true to who he was. Whether he was detailing a car, preparing a meal, or simply cracking a joke, he did it with heart. His dreams were big, his love was real, and his legacy will live on in the stories we share, the meals we remember, and the lives he touched. Rest easy, Dennis. You cooked with love. You loved with heart. You lived with purpose. And now, you ride in peace.
Dennis was preceeded in death by his grand daughter Baby Ariyah Carter.
