Denise's obituary

Denise "Neicy AKA Peanut/Nut" Mansfield, 64, of Newark, NJ, passed away on March 29, 2023 from cancer-related pneumonia. Denise grew up on Littleton Avenue and helped her mother run a candy store as a young kid.  She learned a lot from running the store that stuck with her over the years. She attended a "school within a school" at Shabazz and Weequahic HS. After graduating, Denise went to Cittone Business School. She worked as a court stenographer and on the corporate side at a local bank for many years.  Denise was a spiritual seeker who experimented with  different paths over the years.  Through a dark period, she discovered a love of Jesus Christ that lasted the rest of her life.  She was such a diligent worker that, even though she did not want the responsibility, was always promoted into management positions. Some of the things Denise loved were God, her family, butterflies, the color green (forest), the Giants,  all the Charlie Brown holiday specials, “sucking candy” (soft peppermints especially!), collecting unique pens, and playing Hearts online. Some of her favorite shows were The Honeymooners, The Carol Burnett Show, In the Heat of the Night,  Any Day Now, and The Young and the Restless.  She absolutely loved the Christmas classic 'It's a Wonderful Life'.  Family was important to her. She tried to make every event, even if she could only stay for a few. She would often show up in her work uniform because she would sometimes be on her way to or just coming from work, but she always showed up for her family if she could. Her passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of those who love her (present tense, because  her love will never die nor will our love for her). She was an amazing mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Denise was predeceased by her parents, big brother Jimmy, sister Jayne, favorite cousin Kaatrine and her parents Aunt Luanne and Uncle Henry, and other beloved family members. She is survived by her daughter, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.  She was an amazing woman who touched the lives of so many.  She often said she was not her body, so I imagine her being free of earthly concerns and happy with the loved ones who transitioned before her whom she loved so much. They say those who touch our lives stay in our hearts forever. We will miss you here on the physical plane deeply and love you always. A red cardinal sat on my car as I wrote this. I see you mommy. I love you forever.
