Denise's obituary
She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, on March 9, 1959, to Richard and Ann Eich.
Denise grew up on a farm near Epiphany, South Dakota, and graduated from Canova High School in 1977, where she played basketball and drums. After high school, she became a legal secretary and worked for law firms in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Denise met David Hillin in Sioux Falls in 1983, and they were married in November 1984. Over the years they made their home in Salt Lake City; Humble, Texas; Austin, Texas; Edmond, Oklahoma; Tulsa; and Richmond. In 2002, Denise started working at Curtis Restaurant Supply as Manager-Accounts Receivable, a job which she loved both for the employees she worked with and the customers she met, and continued there until her retirement in October 2020. In April 2021, she and David relocated to Richmond to be near their children.
Some of Denise’s favorite activities included visiting family, traveling, taking photographs and videos of family activities, baking Christmas treats and, most of all, spending time with and spoiling her grandson. Additionally, she loved her Westie dogs Tuffy, Hennessey, and Rocky, the latter two having been rescues. While Denise’s time on Earth was cut short, her love, kindness, faith, and generous spirit will live on in all her family and friends, whose lives she touched so deeply.
Survivors include husband David; mother Ann Kunkel; son Matthew, daughter-in-law Isabel, and grandson Pierce; daughter Morgan Lantman and son-in-law Tyler; brothers Russ (Nancy) Eich and Bob Eich; and sisters Cheryl (Doug) Austreim, Patricia (Stan) Koepsell, and Marilyn (Stuart) Jacobsen. She is also survived by 39 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Eich.
A memorial will be held for Denise at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 10th, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Tulsa. A rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9th at St. Bernard’s.
