Denise's obituary

Denise E. Anderson was born on February 18, 1956, in Washington DC to the late Archie Anderson and Doris L. Gomez Anderson of Lanham, Maryland. Denise was the eldest of three daughters. Her siblings are Terrie V. Tracy (John) and Lynette M. Anderson. Educated in Prince George’s County Maryland school system, Denise graduated from DuVal High School in June of 1974. Denise’s favorite season was Fall. She was known to go “Leaf Peeping,” and would try to get everyone involved by asking friends and family to send her pictures of trees in their fall colors. She loved learning about cultures from all over the world. Denise also enjoyed studying plant-based nutrition, making healthy recipes, and learning about practices that assisted with the longevity of people of other cultures.

Denise worked secularly running a cleaning service, and served as a Factory Line Worker at Wite Out in Beltsville, MD, an Administrative Assistant for Harmony Cemetery of Landover Maryland, an Office Manager for Davis Contracting in Bladensburg, Maryland and an Office Assistant for the Maryland Bankruptcy Court of Greenbelt, Maryland. More recently, she worked in the Risk Management Department for Safeway food stores of Lanham Maryland.

Though these jobs provided for her financially, in 1973 Denise embarked on her lifelong study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Bible education became the work she most enjoyed. On February 3, 1974, along with her parents and siblings, Denise symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God by being baptized at the Crownsville Maryland Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Serving God—and helping others serve him also—became her passion. She shared the truths she learned with her family and friends, in fact with everyone she met. On February 3, 2023, she commemorated the 49th anniversary of her baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In those 49 years of faithful service to her God Jehovah, Denise served first as a publisher of the good news. After high school, Denise served for many years as a Continuous Auxiliary Pioneer and then a Full-Time Pioneer, spending as much as 90 hours a month in Bible education work. She first attended the Lanham East Congregation, which became the Lanham Congregation, the Mitchellville Congregation, and most recently the Landover Congregation. Denise aided students to qualify to be baptized and was able to mentor many young people, providing rides to and from meetings at the Kingdom Hall and out in the ministry, and sharing practical advice on being faithful in their service to Jehovah.

On March 21st, in her home in Lanham, Maryland, Denise, who was affectionately known as “Deese” by her family, died of cancer at the age of 67. She is survived by her mother Doris L. Anderson, her sisters Terrie V. Tracy (John), her sister Lynette M. Anderson, two nephews whom she could not have been prouder of, Andrew C Tracy (Alaysha) and Jeremy K. Tracy (Kyria), many other family members and loads of friends. Denise, who was known for her ability to look for good in others, for taking care of everyone around her, for her easy sense of humor, her laugh and her smile, needed to rest from her battle with cancer. She fought to live valiantly! She is safe in Jehovah’s memory and will live again when sickness and death are done away with, as promised in the Bible at Revelation 21:1-4. Sleep well Deese. We’ll be here when you wake up.
