Denis's obituary

We sadly announce the passing of Denis Gagnon, he passed away after a long courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by his family January 1st 2019.
Predeceased by his mother (Irene) father (Marcel) sister (Diane) and brother (Paul)
Denis leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Laurie, sons Jeff (Tanis) , Mike and daughter Amanda (Rob).
His brothers Maurice (Pam), George, Louis (Lorna), Claude (Juliet) and sisters Lorraine and Lucille (Roger) numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren (Jesse, Aaron, Willow, Ava and Tisha) and special friend Barb.
Denis was born on April 13th 1957 in St Boniface in a large family and met his wife when he was 13 years old.
He spent his life enjoying the smaller things and spending time with friends and family. He built a mechanic shop with his brother George where they lived and spent many years together. He had a passion for building vehicles and running demolition derby alongside his sons. He spent many years with his family at Selkirk Park where he expanded his family to his camping family. Many years were spent there swimming, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife where they traveled as far south as they could. He really enjoyed spending time with his dog Zen, Laurie and daughter at the dog park where they could watch him run around and play for hours. They also spent a lot of time travelling and camping with his late sister Diane and her husband Rob. They were never short of adventures regardless of where they went or how long they were gone. He worked most of his life but due to complications he was able to spend some valuable time off with his family towards the end. Denis enjoyed spending time at Tim Hortons where he had quite the community of friends where they could talk for hours and make any day a great one. When things started slowing down he made every day count. He spent time with his family whether it was afternoon Sunday coffees or Tuesday suppers and made sure they knew how much they meant to him. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Even until the end he continued his fight with a great smile, sense of humor and put his family needs first always. He truly was an amazing man, father and a best friend anyone could ever ask for. You will be missed everyday and I will see you one day soon. Love you to the moon and back.
Thank you to everyone at Cancer Care MB and the St Boniface palliative care nurses who visited every week.
A cremation has taken place and a celebration of life to follow on January 19th at 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Archwood Community Club (565 Guilbault St. Winnipeg, Manitoba) .
