Demaris's obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Demaris "Dru" Johnson, whose journey through life ended on January 31, 2024. Born on April 16, 1985, Demaris enthusiastically embraced life with his warm, bubbly, witty, funny, and loving personality.

A devoted husband, father, and brother, Demaris is survived by his beloved wife, Cheyenne Johnson, whom he married in 2020. Together, they nurtured a beautiful blended family that includes his daughter, Breanna Moore, step-son, Xavier Miles, and step-daughter, Cali Miles. His enduring love also extended to his mother, Linda Johnson, sister, Monique Howard, brothers, Marlos Johnson and John Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.

A shadow of grief fell in 2023 when Demaris lost his father, Derrick Howard, and his brother, Tonio Johnson. His grandmother, Claudine Howard, also predeceased him. Despite these trials, Demaris remained a beacon of strength and resilience, inspiring those around him with his wisdom and spirit.

Demaris was a proud graduate of Montcalm Community College, where he earned a degree in Business Administration in 2018. His diligent pursuit of knowledge was only one aspect of his abundant life. His love for food, music, sports, and games were integral to his vibrant personality. He loved Tacos, spaghetti, and chili; listened to Bootsy Collins, Freddie Gibbs, and Dolph; and cheered for the Chicago Bears. He challenged friends and family to games of football, basketball, and scrabble, and enjoyed fishing and working on music in his leisure time.

His favorite vacation spots were in the Tennessee wilderness where he found solace in nature, and his love for the color blue was as vibrant as his personality. His philosophy was simply to "live for today as tomorrow is not always promised." It is this wisdom and his legacy of love that he leaves behind.

We mourn Demaris's passing and will miss him deeply. His absence in life has left a hole that can never be filled. Yet, we celebrate the love and joy he brought into our lives and the indelible mark he left in our hearts. The void he leaves will serve as a reminder of a life lived with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
