Delmer's obituary

Delmer Charles Cain, 80, of Saginaw, TX, passed from this life on September 23, 2022 surrounded by family.


Delmer was born on April 28, 1942 to Elmer D. and Frances Cain in Woodward, Oklahoma, where his family lived until [year]. The family moved to North Richland Hills, Texas, where Elmer D. worked as a federal engineer. Delmer graduated from [name of high school] in [high school graduation year]. He then pursued a degree in [college major] at [college name].

In [year}, Delmer married Janice Kreitner and had two children, James Todd and Melissa Marie. They divorced in [year]. While working for the Texas Employment Commission, he met and married Isabel Flores in 1977. They had two children, Daniel Anthony and Christina Irene, and moved to Saginaw in 1983. He was a beloved husband and father who always encouraged his children to pursue their passions and enjoy life to the fullest.

Delmer was passionate about working for Texas Employment Commission in the placement and Job Corps divisions. He retired for the first time in 1998 after [number of years] in the field. He went back to work again in [year], before permanently retiring in [year]. Once retired, he had time to pursue his love of writing, poetry, and music. 

Delmer was a born storyteller, and became heavily involved in the DFW Writer's Workshop, where he went from  new writer, to published author, and then a mentor to up-and-coming writers. He also worked diligently on his poetry craft, contributing to several published anthologies, and becoming involved with the Austin International Poetry Festival. He is the author of Lawmen of the Old West: The Good Guys, Lawmen of the Old West: The Bad Guys, Songs of the Prairie Wind, and [Christmas poem book].

Delmer was also a talented and enthusiastic musician. While he always loved and appreciated music, he became dedicated to learning to play as many instruments as he could as part of the Trinity Episcopal Church Folk Band. He co-wrote several songs and truly felt the call to make a joyful noise unto the Lord as part of his worship and his service to God.

Delmer was predeceased by his father, Elmer Dodge Cain, his mother, Frances Marie Cain, and his son James Todd Cain. He is survived by his beloved wife, Isabel, daughter Melissa and her fiancé Kevin, son Daniel, daughter Christina and her husband Timothy, grandchildren DeAndre', Trae, Marcus, Grace, and Emma, and one great grandchild, Amelia. He is also survived by his sister Alice Marie and her husband Doug, his sister Lindy and her husband Jim, parents-in-law Pete and Irene, in-laws Raymond, Dee, Charles, Robert and Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church (3401 Bellaire Drive South, Fort Worth, TX 76109) on Saturday, October 8th at 11 o'clock in the morning. His cremains will lie in state for private prayer and reflection in St. Mary's Chapel (on the east end of the church) for the hour prior to the funeral.
