Della's obituary

Della Elizabeth Alexander passed away December 9th, 2020 at Grandview Health Home in Danville, PA, where she had been a resident for the last 15 years. Born Della Elizabeth Greap on November 11th, 1940, she was the daughter of Dorothy May Greap.

Della married Mirl Butler Alexander on March 4th, 1961 at the EUB Church, Danville, PA, with the Reverend Mark Herman officiating. She worked for several local manufacturers in the area before she and Mirl settled in Danville where she became a full-time homemaker after the birth of their son Theodore in 1967.

Della was very outgoing and loved the simple things in life. Family and friendship were very important to her. Multiple health issues and the death of her husband in 1993 made life difficult, but she always managed to see the bright side of things and care about others.

Over the years she had several pets and enjoyed watching and feeding her outdoor animal friends. She never learned to drive but walked around town, striking up conversations as she carried out her daily routine. She continued this after becoming a resident of Grandview in 2005, following a health emergency, and was well known there, interacting with both residents and staff. Although recent years had slowed her down, early in her stay there she was very active in social events, read the daily announcements over the intercom and played bingo every Tuesday. She also participated in outings for lunch, movies, trips to Knoebels, fairs and other local happenings. She rarely missed The Price Is Right and was an avid Phillies fan, looking forward to seeing a game while sporting her team hat or blanket.

In addition to her husband, Della was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy; step-father Melvin Kremser; five brothers: James Young, Nemo Foreman, Nelson Foreman, Lester Foreman and Donald Foreman, and a sister, Irene Hummel. She is survived by her son Theodore Alexander, his wife Judy, granddaughter Jeana and grandson David, all of Danville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A private ceremony will be held at Elan Memorial Park Cemetery, Bloomsburg, PA, at a future date with arrangements under direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Danville, PA. Donations may be made in memory of Della to The American Cancer Society, The Humane Society of the United States and World Wildlife Fund.
