Debra Ann McVety (Wood)
Cobourg, ON/Dartmouth/North Sydney
The family announces with heavy hearts the unexpected passing of Debra McVety on October 25th 2024 in Cobourg, Ontario. Deb was a beloved mother, partner, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed and remembered for her loving nature and tenacious spirit.
She was born in North Sydney on December 17th 1955 to the late Earl Wood Sr. and Ann (Wood) Young.
Deb worked hard to obtain post-secondary education graduating first, with a Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies from Cape Breton University and then Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University in 2002. She was employed at Mi’kmaq Family and Children’s Services in Eskasoni, until her retirement in 2013.
She is survived by her loving partner Wayne, her sons, Trevor and Michael (Julie) McVety, her daughter, Dana-Lauren (Jayson) Arbour, and her granddaughters, Kali Arbour and Catelyn McVety. She is also survived by her younger siblings, two sisters, Kathy (Robert Cirtwell) Wood and Diane (Gary) Piccott, her brother, Darryl Wood and her nephews Ryan and Lucas Piccott. Deb's impact is reflected in the bonds she nurtured with her nephew, Regan Piccott and her first-born grandson, Cameron Arbour with whom, she shared a special love.
Deb was predeceased by her son, Jason Wayne McVety and her elder brother, Earl Joseph Wood.
Her cherished dog Mylo, passed not long before her. The rainbow bridge has reunited them.
In keeping with her wishes the family will honour her, in a private way. No formal service will take place and we invite all to hold her memory dear.
