Debra's obituary
It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Debra “Debbie” Lynn Carlson Butler, 70, of Elmhurst, Illinois, who died peacefully on November 4, 2025. She was born on May 7, 1954, in Dearborn, Michigan, and was the cherished daughter of Sylvia and J.W. Carlson, who preceded her in death.
Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert; her children, Samantha (Joe) Bruzdzinski and David (Mariah) Butler; and her beloved grandchildren—Joey, Emily, Adeline, Jake Bruzdzinski, and Presley, Emery, and Bohdi Butler.
Known for her bold spirit and passion for children, Debbie began her career teaching preschool and pursued her love of nurturing throughout her life. After raising her family, she joined Hawthorne Elementary School, where she worked for many years as a lunchroom supervisor and classroom aide. She also spent a brief time working at her father’s business, The Finishing Company, before embracing her most fulfilling role as a grandmother. Debbie helped raise her grandchildren, and they brought a second purpose to her life and became the joy of her later years.
Debbie embodied steady and unwavering love, always bringing support and encouragement to all who knew her. Her family will deeply miss her and are grateful for the years, memories, and blessings they shared, even as they mourn the moments she will no longer be here for.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 1, 2026, at Wilder Park in Elmhurst, Illinois, to honor her memory and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Her family extends heartfelt thanks for the prayers, messages, and support they have received during this difficult time. Donations in Debbie’s honor may be made to The Morning Center. https://www.morningcenter.org…
