Debra's obituary

Obituary for Debra Lynn Knish (Buker)

Debra Lynn Knish (Buker), age 71, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, just days shy of her 72nd birthday. Born on March 15, 1954, in Waseca, Minnesota, Debra touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter.

A proud graduate of the Waseca High School Class of 1972, Debra dedicated her life to serving others. For many years, she worked as a personal care assistant (PCA), employing her compassionate heart to support individuals with mental and physical disabilities. Her dedication to helping others was matched only by her love for nature, especially during the fall when the leaves painted the landscape in vibrant colors. She found joy in planting flowers in her beloved garden, where she made sure to include at least one tomato plant to create meals filled with fresh, home-grown goodness.

Debra's love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her three cherished dogs—Cody and Peanut, her miniature dachshunds, and Kirby, a loving mix of dachshund and Shih Tzu. The joy they brought her was a testament to her gentle spirit.

An admirer of music, Debra often reminisced about the rock and pop sounds of the '70s and '80s and the carefree days of dancing with her brother Ron. She fondly recalled a memorable bus trip to Florida with her dear friend Leona, a trip that expanded her horizons and filled her heart with joy.

In her leisure time, Debra enjoyed reading, taking walks, and watching movies with her grandchildren. Her playful spirit made family game nights an adventure, while her shopping outings brought laughter and love. Her radiant smile and contagious laugh left an indelible mark on all who met her, and her sarcastic sense of humor was a cherished legacy she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Debra is survived by her loving siblings: Diane Krienke of Mankato, Minnesota; Ron Buker of Neosho, Missouri; and Gary Buker of Janesville, Minnesota. She is also survived by her two children, son Jeremy Knish and his wife Caya Dahl of Waterville, Minnesota, and daughter Melissa Knish-Hill and her husband Ron Hill of Owatonna, Minnesota. Additionally, she will be missed dearly by her grandchildren: Tristian, Sidney, Aspen, Berlin, and Maddux, along with her great-grandson Raiden.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19th from 1-3 PM at the Owatonna American Legion. Friends and family are invited to come, share memories, and honor the beautiful life of Debra Lynn Knish.
