Debra's obituary
Debra Jean Duval, lovingly known as “Debbie,” lived a life that radiated joy, compassion, and boundless love.
Born on December 14, 1968 in Rochester, New York, Debbie was the fourth and youngest child of Press & Margaret Wilcox. She grew up surrounded by music, soul food and the vivacious energy of her siblings and extended family.
From an early age she exuded a wisdom and resilience that far exceeded her years.
Debbie attended Charlotte High School, shortly after finishing she met her husband of 36 years, Judson “June” Duval, Jr. They had two amazing children together, Judson “Jay” Duval III and Taryn Kelly Wyatt.
Amid raising a family, Debbie’s passions for social work blossomed and she received her Associate Degree from Monroe Community College in the early 2000s. For the next three decades, Debbie devoted her life and career to service in the form of social work and human services -- uplifting the vulnerable and advocating for those who needed a voice. Her effervescent spirit was a gift to all who knew her — her sense of humor and laughter could light up a room.
A modern-day renaissance woman and life-long learner, Debbie also studied at Roberts Wesleyan University and most recently worked to become a certified drug counselor, recognizing the need in the community for greater equity and resourcing in that area of healthcare.
Beyond her work, Debbie had a passion for creating beauty around her, finding joy in interior decorating and making every space she touched warm, inviting, and full of life. Her home was a true reflection of her soul: vibrant, welcoming, and filled with laughter.
Debbie felt most fulfilled when spending quality time with her family, especially her five grand-children who quickly became the center of her universe from the moment they were born.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, wife, aunt, cousin, and friend. In each of these roles, she gave her whole heart, offering endless encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love.
On Resurrection Sunday, April 20, 2025, Heaven gained a brilliant light as Debbie peacefully returned home to the arms of her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Margaret Eunice Wilcox and Press Wilcox and her cherished elder brother, Donald P. Wilcox, whose memories she carried tenderly in her heart throughout her life.
Though we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life wonderfully lived — a life marked by kindness, generosity, and joy. Her legacy will continue to live on through her husband Judson “June” Duval II; her children, Judson “Jay” Duval III and Taryn Kelly Wyatt; grandchildren, Jahmir Duval, Judson Duval IV, Tre’zure Jackson, Michael Wyatt III and Taylor Cranston; her siblings Darrell Wilcox, Merice Wilkins, and Press Wilcox, Jr., her sisters-in-law Lena Wilcox, Harolda P. Wilcox and Jacqueline Jackson; her brothers-in-law, the late William Andrew Wilkins, Jr. and John Jackson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jeanette and Ivy Brinson; her thirty-six nieces and nephews; and countless other family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A celebration of her beautiful life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Restoration House of Prayer located at 60 Woodward Street, Rochester, New York 14604.
We love you, Debbie. Your light will never dim.
