Debra's obituary
Debra Kelly (Kowaleski), 69, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Charleston, West Virginia.
Debra was born on August 18, 1956, in Stamford, Connecticut, and most recently resided in Eubank, Kentucky. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic, creativity, and her ability to solve problems with care and determination.
Debra dedicated her career to serving others, first as a police officer and later as a nurse, roles that reflected her deep sense of responsibility, compassion, and commitment to helping those in need. Beyond her professional life, she was artistic by nature, finding joy in artful and hands-on DIY projects, and was admired by many for her practical wisdom and resilience.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Amanda Figel; her brothers, Bob Kowaleski and David Kowaleski; her grandchildren, Emily and Timmy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all cherish her memory.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marguerite “Peggy” Kowaleski; her father, Louis Kowaleski; and her sister, Karen Mattioli (Kowaleski).
A private memorial service will be held for close family only.
Debra will be remembered for her strength, independence, and originality. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
