Deborah's obituary

Deborah Stark Sigmund passed away on January 4th of 2023. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 31st, 1951.

Known as a pillar of the Washington, D.C. community, Deborah was the consummate hostess and dedicated to helping others through philanthropic causes. Deborah immersed herself in the fight against the human trafficking of children as founder of the non-profit organization Innocents at Risk. Innocents at Risk was endorsed by the U.S. State Department for efforts to save the millions of women and children trafficked annually worldwide.

In addition to Innocents at Risk, she proudly served charitable groups such as The Washington Ballet, Second Genesis, Knock Out Abuse and Arts for the Aging.

Deborah valued family, socializing with friends and traveling to sun filled destinations.

Deborah was predeceased by her husband Donald who she called the love of her life and survived by children Alex and Hillary (Sean), step-children Lindsay (Jeff) and Wright (Natalie), mother Shirley, brothers John and Tom, grandchildren Hannah, Ava, Hunter, Killean, Lily, Katniss, and Eloise, nieces Courtney and Elizabeth, nephews Kyle and John, her extended family and friends.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 at the Christ Church, 3116 O Street NW, Washington, DC 2007.  Memorial contributions in Deborah Sigmund's name may be made to Operation Underground Railroad, https://www.ourrescue.org The Washington Ballet, www.washingtonballet.org or the Polaris Project, https://polarisproject.org
