Deborah's obituary
Mrs. Deborah Cheryl Sams-Daniels transitioned peacefully from this earth to be with the Lord
on December 24, 2023. Memorial services will be conducted on the 6 th day of January 2024,
11:00 a.m. at The New Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, Inc. with the Reverend
Larry Roundtree II officiating.
Mrs. Sams-Daniels was a native and resident of Tampa, FL for 66 beautiful years. She is a
graduate of Henry B. Plant High School and a proud alumnus of the illustrious Florida A&M
University. Following her matriculation, she went on to serve as a teacher’s aide for the
Hillsborough County School Board until her retirement in 2009. She was also a faithful member
of The New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, Inc; having served as a part of Usher
Board #1 and the WIA ministry. She enjoyed laughing and spending quality time with her loved
ones, especially her grandson, Ali.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mae C. Haggins-Sams and Curtis “Skipper” Sams,
as well as her parents, James Leroy and Bessie R. Murray.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted husband of 28 years, Charles Daniels III, her
daughter Julia Maria Clemons of Tampa, FL and son-in-love Charles Daniels IV (Catherine) of
Atlanta, GA, as well as her father, Jimmy Lee Gilchrist.
Also in mourning, we have her siblings; Robert Gilchrist (Marilyn), Mae Garland, Laurie Murray,
Leroy Murray III (Debbie), Joy Johnson (Robert), Gail Barnes (Michael), her grandchildren; Ali
Isaiah McMullen, Jessika Prayor, Erin Daniels, and Charles Daniels V, her nieces and nephews;
Willie Garland Jr., Curtis Garland, Jimmy Murray, Sherron Caldwell, Leroy Murray IV (Lauren),
Maurice Murray, Christopher Murray, Robert Johnson III, Lateca Simmons, Marcus Washington
(Tamisha), Janae Washington, great nieces and nephews; Jorden, Anyla, Kierra, Jaila, Janiah,
Lailah, Jaiden, Kaiden, Recheyla, Cashmere, Eli, Emir, Quincy, Macyn, Zion, Jaiden, Jai’mere,
Shawnice, Tyra, her aunt, Cynthia Thomas, as well as a host of other beloved family, friends and
loved ones.
