Dawn's obituary
In Loving Memory of Dawn Elizabeth LaMertha (née Brooks)
Dawn Elizabeth LaMertha, née Brooks, a woman of faith, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on August 2, 2025. Born in Ballston Spa, New York, in May 1950, Dawn lived a life of service, marked by strength and defined by her devotion to those in need.
In March 1972, she married her beloved husband, Ernest E. LaMertha II (Skip), with whom she raised four children: Elizabeth (Beth), Ernest III (Ernie), Charity, and Katherine (Kitty). Dawn’s love for her family was revealed through steadfast prayer and tireless, heartfelt advocacy on their behalf.
Dawn heart’s desire was to walk with Jesus. Having come to know Him as her Savior as a young adult, Dawn committed her life to ministry and prayer. She lived her faith boldly, serving as a Chaplain’s wife, Sunday school teacher, women’s ministry and Bible study leader, widow support coordinator, and tireless prayer warrior. If you met Dawn, you could count on her prayers—for you, for your loved ones, even for people mentioned in passing. Her prayers were not passive but powerful: persistent, personal, and full of intent.
She will be remembered for her grit, conviction, and the way she showed up—faithfully and consistently—for her family, her community, and her Lord. Her legacy lives on in the lives she lifted up and, in the prayers, still echoing on their behalf.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Ernest “Skip” LaMertha II, and their four children: Elizabeth LaMertha; Ernest La Mertha III and his wife Tiffany, along with their children Ernest IV, Charlotte, and Robert; Charity Sianturi and her husband Manatap, with their daughter Cahyani; and Katherine Henriksen and her husband Wesley, with their children Mercy, Faith, Joshua, Patrick, Patience, Nathaniel, Nehemiah, and Hope.
She is also survived by her Brooks siblings—Donna, Darlene, Joy, Joanne, Hope, Donald, Floyd, Stephen, James, Greg, Elizabeth, and Cynthia—and their families, whom she faithfully kept in her prayers. Her love stretched across generations and miles, woven into quiet moments and lasting memories.
