Dawn's obituary
Dawn Brooks Gragen, 60, of Winterville, NC, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her loving husband and son on March 30, 2022 in Chapel Hill, NC. Dawn was born April 22, 1961 in New Haven, CT. and spent her childhood in Clinton, CT. Dawn graduated from The Hammonasset School, Madison, CT and attended Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa. where she earned her B.S. Behavioral Sciences degree. After graduating college in 1985, Dawn moved to Vermont, where she met her husband, Kim Gragen of Putney, VT. She worked as a Health Outreach Specialist for the Vermont Department of Health in Brattleboro, VT, for 23 years, residing in Vernon, VT. She retired recently, October 2021 and moved to Greenville, NC to start her next chapter. Anyone who knew Dawn knew that she was loving, caring, had an enormous sense of humor and was devoted to helping others. She also was a voracious reader, a life long learner.
Dawn was predeceased by her father, Alfred Brooks Hubbard of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Grandparents Arthur Emery Brooks and Arline Lupien Brooks of South Grafton, MA., Lawrence Kenneth Joyce and Helen Landon Joyce of East Haven , CT. She is survived by husband Kim Gragen of Greenville, NC, son Elliot Brooks Gragen( fiance Samantha Perrotta),of Charlotte, NC. Step son Benjamin Gragen (Roxanne Halpin Gragen ) granddaughter Greta Mae Gragen and grandson Henry Gragen of Jefferson, MA. Mother, Joan Helen Joyce Hubbard of Clinton, CT . Sisters- Dava Joyce Chickering (William Chickering) of West Chesterfield, NH , nephews Justin Aaron Valaske, ( Rhianna Curtis) and nephew Orion Valaske, of Putney, VT. and nephew Giles William Chickering, of Cincinnati, OH . Alison Duran Crouse (Daniel Deforest Crouse), of Hummelstown, PA, nephew Morgan Deforest Crouse of Hummelstown, PA and niece Elizabeth Spencer Crouse of Pittsburgh, PA also many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and friends in the New England area.
A sunset memorial service is being held at Madison Surf Club, Madison,CT Friday April 29, 2022 6-8pm .
