In Loving Memory of Dawn June Hodgkiss
June 29, 1936 - January 5, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved Dawn June Hodgkiss on January 5, 2024. She gracefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories. Her departure, like her existence, was marked by a profound sense of tranquility. Dawn's peaceful sleep served as a gentle reminder that she carried the same calm and comfort into her final moments that she had shared with her loved ones throughout her life.
Born on June 29, 1936, Dawn lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ray Eugene Hodgkiss, son-in-law James Rylander, mother Ethel Faust, her father Harry Faust, and brother Jack Faust and sister in law Janet Faust. She now reunites with them in the embrace of eternal peace.
Dawn is survived by her devoted children, son Harry Hodgkiss, daughter Kimberly Rylander, daughter Valerie Baker and husband William Baker, and son Brian Hodgkiss; her adoring grandchildren Jennifer Bradley and husband Darren Bradley, Michael Rylander, William Baker and wife Brooke Baker, and Brea Baker; and her great-grandchildren Nicholas Bradley and fiancee Morgan Maizer, and Jordyn Bradley. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In her life, Dawn embraced various roles in this life, each marked by a strong work ethic that defined her character and left an enduring impact on those who knew her.
With her husband she owned the Champion Service Gulf Station and a local trailer court in Champion, Pennsylvania. She also worked at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
Dawn found joy in the simple moments spent together with her family. Her family was at the heart of everything she did. Whether it was a comforting embrace, a listening ear, or a helping hand, she selflessly gave of herself to ensure the well-being and happiness of her loved ones. Her nurturing spirit created a haven of love and support, making her a pillar of strength for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family, friends, and even strangers were held in the embrace of Dawn's nightly prayers. Her compassionate petitions to the divine were woven with love, each word carrying the weight of her genuine care for the happiness, health, and prosperity of those she held in her heart. Her faith was not only a source of comfort for herself but also a wellspring of hope for those around her. Dawn wholeheartedly believed in the power of collective prayer, trusting that the shared intentions and heartfelt requests could bring about positive change in the lives of those who needed it most.
A woman of many passions, Dawn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed sharing a good joke, playfully teasing her loved ones, and finding amusement in the day-to-day adventures of life. Her sense of humor became a cherished part of her identity. She was an avid painter, creating beautiful canvases that reflected beautiful landscapes. Her love for literature was evident in the stacks of books and the many upon many trips to the Ligonier Valley Library, and she could often be found engrossed in a good novel or working on challenging puzzles that showcased her sharp intellect. When she was younger, she was a free spirit who loved to go out dancing, riding with her husband on his motorcycle, swimming in the ocean, and fishing.
In honoring Dawn’s legacy, let us carry forward the valuable lesson she imparts to us. May we not take time for granted, but rather, savor the moments we have with those we hold dear. Let us express our love openly, mend relationships, and prioritize the bonds that truly matter.
As we reflect on her life, we let her passing be a catalyst for positive change in our own lives. May we live each day with intention, embracing the people we love, and creating a legacy of meaningful connections that transcend the boundaries of time. May her fun-loving spirit inspire us to find joy in the little things, to embrace the lighter side of life, and to share a hearty laugh with those we hold dear. May we, too, find solace in the power of compassionate intention, and may her legacy inspire us to extend kindness, love, and prayers to those in need. Dawn’s legacy lives on in the cherished memories, the echoes of her laughter, and the love that continues to weave through the lives of those she touched.
