David's obituary
David Seebold Zimmerman, M.D., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully at age 92 after an extended illness. David was born in New Cumberland (1933) to Frank and Alice Zimmerman.
He graduated New Cumberland High School as Valedictorian, Class President, and Captain of the football team. He received a full scholarship to Dartmouth College and went on to get his MD at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1959). After serving in Korea as a Captain in the Army Air Corps as a flight surgeon, David returned to the Mechanicsburg area in 1961 and entered into partnership with Dr. Robert Stahl and later Dr. Carlos Delafuente. David was proud of being a family physician available to all within the local community, delivering countless babies and tending to the illnesses and injuries of children and adults alike. He practiced medicine for more than 50 years, in his own office, as an emergency room physician and as an urgent care doctor.
He also served the community in a variety of capacities, including as the Mechanicsburg School District's physician and as President of the Board of Seidle Memorial Hospital as well as on the board of Capital Health System. An accomplished woodworker all his life, David spent much of his time in retirement creating cabinets and other furnishings for family, friends and the community. David was an avid Penn State football fan. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his wife, Karen, at home or the beach. His was a life well-lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lois and Janet. He is survived by his wife, Karen; three children by his first marriage: Craig, Todd and Claudia; his step-children, John and Michael; 11 grand and great-grandchildren; and his niece, Diane.
