David's obituary

David Thomas Zak passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2024 at his home in Osage Beach, Missouri. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.

David was the youngest of three children born on May 6, 1958 to Leon G. Zak and Nancy A. Zak (nee Coniglio). David attended York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois and later enlisted in the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged due to a prior injury.

He returned to civilian life where he worked in quality control at National Material Company. It was there that he laid eyes on the cutest machine operator he ever saw, Martha Almendarez. He quickly asked her out on a date, and he knew almost immediately she was “The One”. Two weeks after that first date, he proposed and they married 6 months later on April 28, 1979.

Their love story was one for the books. They had three wonderful children and built an amazing life together that started in a little apartment in Villa Park, Illinois. With his tenacious work-ethic, Dave started his own HVAC business. He loved working and made many strong and long-lasting friendships. Eventually, Dave and Martha settled to where he referred to as “paradise” on a lake front property in Osage Beach, MO. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on April 28, 2024.

David was strong-willed and stubborn as a bull, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous and loyal friend and served as a second father figure to many. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: HVAC technician, small business owner, fisherman, contractor – he could fix or build anything.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Zak, his sister Natalie Bradford, his children, Christopher Zak, Lilly Ramirez and Rebecca Freeman (Jacob Freeman) his 5 beautiful grandchildren, Nina, Bennett, Elena, Helena and Isabella, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his adored canine companion Shortie. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Leon J. Zak.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at the Zak family home on Thursday June 6, 2024 from 1:00-5:00 pm.
