David's obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of David Young, who was warmly known for his wit, sarcasm, dedication, loyalty, and helpful personality. David was born on April 7, 1942, and departed this life on August 14, 2021, leaving a legacy that will forever be engraved in the hearts of all who knew him.
David leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Mary and Rosamunde Young. He is also survived by his brothers, Lonnie and Louis D'Andrea, and his grandsons, Brandon Burger, Sean Young, and Victor Overall. David was predeceased by his wife, Cheryl Boutwell, whom he married in 1968, and his mother, Helen Jones.
A dedicated volunteer at the Wallowa County Humane Society and an attendee of the 82nd Airborne Division Historical Society, David also proudly served in the Special Forces of the U.S. Army. He had a fervent passion for all creatures and believed deeply in their rightful care and protection.
David was a man of simple pleasures, a lover of hot and spicy food, vodka, and Dr. Pepper. A fan of classic rock, he enjoyed the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Steppenwolf. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his family.
He often said, “A broken promise makes a broken heart,” a reflection of the honesty and integrity he lived by. He believed that family was created through special bonds, not blood alone — a belief that expanded his circle into a large, loving family built on loyalty, trust, and connection. His greatest accomplishment was his family, whom he cherished, guided, and loved unreservedly.
His smile that could lift anyone’s spirits, his love for animals, and his unwavering loyalty are just a few of the many gifts he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Best Friends Animal Society, a cause close to David’s heart. Donations can be made at: https://everloved.com/life-of….
We remember David today and always for his genuine love, relentless honesty, and a heart that was always ready to help. He will be greatly missed.
