Dave's obituary
David William Gross, beloved son and brother, died unexpectedly on Wednesday February 28, 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado at the age of 73. He was affectionately known within the family as ‘Dave’.
Dave was born on April 23, 1950, to William John Gross and LaVerne Shire in Portland Oregon. He was the middle child, joining his older sister Barbara.
Dave was a friendly active child who grew up to be a friendly active adult, who also valued his privacy and solitude.
After high school, Dave and a friend began remodeling houses and selling them for profit. They worked hard to use materials and layouts that matched the period the house was originally built in. Eventually, Dave began buying and remodeling houses on his own and would live in the house while he was taking the time to honor the original craftsmanship. He also worked for various employers over the years, the last one being the Denver Post newspaper. Along the way he also completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Dave always loved the mountains, but many winters he traveled to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta for a break from the cold. When he was ready to retire, he moved to Pueblo to take advantage of the lower cost of living.
Dave is mourned by his sisters and his brothers-in-law: Lorraine and George Mulqueen and Barbara and Paul Hart, his niece Erin Mulqueen Marczewski and her family, stepsister Diane Stewart, stepbrother Dennis Burt, and other family members and longtime friends Diana Johnson and Karen Manville.
Dave’s mother, LaVerne Shire Gross Burt, died 12 days later, on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 97.
