David's obituary
David Hans Sorensen, 61, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022. He was born into life on November 9, 1960 and was the son of the late Kenneth W. and Novella Sorensen. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W., his brother, Kenny, and his nephew, Erik.
David, also known as "Dave" by his family and friends, grew up in the Village of Bartlett, where he became a member of the Operating Engineers Union. During his 35 years in the Union, David became an extraordinarily talented Heavy Equipment Operator. In his younger years, David developed a passion for motorcycles and cars, spending hours racing his Honda 50cc mini bike up and down the long driveway of his childhood home. This passion continued throughout his life ad David participated in motorcycle races and loved the thrill of attending and watching races of every kind. David also was an avid golfer and turned his hobby into a career, using his talents as a heavy equipment operator to become a uniquely gifted Shaper on golf courses all over the country.
In his later years, David moved to the mountains of Glenwood Springs, Colorado where he resided for many joy-filled years. It was there that David became a Superintendent for the Colorado Department of Transportation and was recognized as a "Road Warrior" keeping the mountain roadways safe for all who traveled them. David was well known for his chili cook-off recipe, receiving multiple awards in two states, and for his love of V&V Pizza. David greatly enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July with firework displays and spending hot summer days in Lake Geneva floating in Buttons Bay. David was an animal lover who throughout his life had dogs by his side, including Cruiser, Sandy, Tacoma, and Sammi. He was very kind and generous to his friends and family, helped may strangers along the highway of life, and used his genius skills to create beautiful pieces of skilled craftsmanship. His was a life well lived.
David is survived by his mother, Novella Sorensen; and his three sisters, Faith (Pete) Hansen, Jan Fink, and Lori(Ralph) Schmitz. He will be lovingly spread across the country laying him to rest in the land, in the waters of Lake Geneva and the Atlantic ocean, and in the mountains of Colorado. He will always be with us and forever in our hearts.
