To Dave's family -- Hi, my name is Sharon Williams. My husband and I knew Dave when we were all in our 20's at Open Door Fellowship. Dave had a profound impact on my life. I was doing my own personal research project, asking people at church why they believed the Bible was true. I got different answers, but Dave's discussion with me was amazing. He could see that I was obviously struggling with my faith. He talked with me, using an analogy of living in a dark cave as opposed to living in the light. He said that since I had grown up in a loving, Christian family, I had not experienced a lot of the darkness in this world. It was like I had always lived in the light, so to speak. He explained that it was probably harder for me to get my faith grounded, since I had not suffered the effects of darkness and sin like some people had. I don't remember all the details, but that was the gist of it. We saw him again years later. When he said hi, he immediately asked if I remembered the conversation about darkness and light. He said he had just had a similar conversation with his daughter. I was so impressed that he remembered our talk. He remembered it so well, like it had happened yesterday. After I heard of his passing, I looked at his Facebook page, and saw his last post, where he said he was completely trusting God with whatever happened concerning his health and life. He was a spiritual giant. And just now, I watched his funny video about smuggling his Arizona straw into a California restaurant. It was Dave's voice, for sure. I would have known it anywhere. You must all miss him very much! I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man who influenced the lives of others, including me.
