David Schemberger, MD, known affectionately as Dr Dave, passed away on October 20, 2023, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born on July 31, 1944, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Dr Dave had a diverse and impactful life, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Dr Dave was a man of many talents and passions. After a successful career in real estate, he made a bold career change and became a general practitioner in medicine. He later served as the Chief Financial Officer of Doctor's Emergency, one of the pioneering urgent care center chains in the country. In his later years, he veered away from traditional medicine and dedicated himself to teaching the concept of "food as medicine." Dr Dave was instrumental in building gardens and urban farms in various locations, including Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Laguna Beach, California; Grenada in the Windward Islands; and in the Navajo Nation in New Mexico and Arizona.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr Dave found joy in gardening and designing spaces for growing food, which he used as a platform to teach others. He had a deep appreciation for live music, particularly Chicago and Milwaukee blues. Dr Dave's love for music and food often brought people together, as he enjoyed gathering friends and loved ones for meals and fellowship.

Dr Dave Schemberger is survived by his daughter, Lisa Schemberger Reid Shanahan; grandchildren Evan Reid, Sarah Reid Escobedo (Adam), Ellis Reid (Jeili), and Connor Shanahan; great-grandchildren Aiden Reid and Miller Escobedo. He is also survived by his brother Tom Schemberger (Susan), niece Stacey Schemberger Watson (Lyle), cousin Rochelle Nichols, cousin Pamela Nichols, and numerous other friends and relatives. Additionally, Janice Christensen, a friend for 30 years and his partner in adventure, mourns his loss.

Dr Dave was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Schemberger, and his mother, Irene Nichols Schemberger.

Memorial services to honor Dr Dave's life will be held later this year. The Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, located in Grand Junction, Colorado, is assisting with final arrangements.

Dr Dave Schemberger's dedication to his community, his passion for teaching the importance of nutrition, and his love for music and gathering people together will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
