David's obituary

David Paul Parker, 72, of Reno, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. Dave was born on July 13, 1952 in Pocatello, ID to Clark and Anna Parker. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1971, where he was a star on the football team. He then attended the University of Idaho where he double majored in Geology and Anthropology. During this time, he met his wife - Bridget Ryan - 52 years ago while studying abroad in Florence, an experience that gave the couple a life-long love of travel. After college, Dave and Bridget moved to San Mateo, CA where Dave worked as an exploration geologist in the mining industry and earned a master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of San Francisco. Dave and Bridget married in San Mateo in 1984 where their daughter Rachel was born in 1987. Dave’s work in geology transferred the family to Reno, where their son Sam was born in 1989. In 2000, Dave founded a consulting firm in Reno where he consulted with various organizations on land use and environmental regulations. He was appointed to the board of the Nevada State Commission on Mineral Resources from 2011-2018. He retired in 2018 shortly after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Gifted with a quick sense of humor, Dave was regarded as a kind, funny, compassionate, and loving person. He could see humor in everything and would often defuse uncomfortable situations with a clever joke that would leave the room in stitches. He met every challenge with optimism, and welcomed everyone with kindness and a warm smile. He had a lifelong love of travel, which led him and his wife Bridget to explore new destinations whenever possible. He also loved the simple joys of walking his dogs, being outdoors, and cheering on his beloved San Francisco Giants. He was adored by his family, who are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful husband and father.

Dave approached his Parkinson’s diagnosis with the same optimism and humor that defined his life. He remained upbeat and funny throughout his Parkinson’s journey and was an inspiration to others who suffered. He was very grateful for his support network within the Parkinson’s community and maintained a positive attitude until his final days.

Dave is survived by his wife, Bridget, two children, Rachel and Sam, and older brothers Clark (Diane) Parker and Don (Kathy) Parker, as well as many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews.

In honor of his love for travel, Dave’s family will be holding services for him in several locations that were particularly meaningful to him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Parkinson’s Support Center of Northern Nevada (PSCNN) www.PSCNN.org.
