David-Mikhail's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David-Mikhail Pomaika’i Wale Decosta-Das, affectionately known as “Das”. Born on the 5th of January 1988, Das left us far too early on the 30th of August 2024, leaving a void that will be hard to fill. Das was a pillar of encouragement who touched many lives with his energy and a relentless urge to lend a helping hand to those in need. His favorite color was a vibrant orange, reflecting his lively and radiant personality.
His laugh, energetic spirit, and enthusiasm for life was contagious, inspiring those around him to see the best in every situation. Das was perpetually encouraging and helpful, his presence was a source of strength and motivation for all who knew him. His spirit was lively and he was a real go-getter who truly believed in the adage "Where there is a will, there is a way." He was always ready with a kind word or a helpful tip, and his encouragement often sparked the resolve in others to pursue their goals with renewed vigor. His legacy, one of sheer generosity, kindness, and helpfulness will continue to guide and inspire us. He touched so many lives in his journey and his absence will be deeply felt by the multitude of people he influenced. As we mourn his untimely passing, we take solace in the countless smiles he brought to faces and the positive impact he had on so many lives.
Das was born and raised in Hawai'i before moving to Colorado, and then to Florida, where he graduated. He then lived in New Jersey and again in Colorado. He made strong, lasting friendships everywhere he went, never met a stranger in his life. Das eventually returned to Florida, making his home in Middleburg with his wife and daughter. In 2017, he ventured into a new career journey with Holeshot Powersports, bringing his characteristic zeal and helpfulness to the workplace and was embraced by his work family at Holeshot.
Das leaves behind his beloved wife, Celia Das, who, like the rest of us, is grappling with the immense loss. In 2007, they met, in 2008 their love story began and it was one for the ages, setting an example for all to follow. In 2018, they became Mr. and Mrs. Das. Their love bloomed further with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Carina Das, in February, 2020. Their family was his pride and joy. David is also survived by his mother, Leona Steel (Brian Roberts), his brother Kyle Steel, grandparents Elvira (Cookie) Beck, James Miyamoto and an aunt and cousins in Seattle, Hawai'i, and Germany.
A celebration of Das' life will take place on September 21, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Club Continental, located in Orange Park, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Das' memory may consider contributing to the "Memorial Fundraiser." Funds raised will serve as a fitting tribute to a man who spent his life giving. Contributions can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of….
Das' life was a testament to the power of positivity, kindness, and a helping spirit. While he will be dearly missed, his legacy of generosity, kindness, and helpfulness will live on. We ask you to simply remember, “What Would Das Do?”. His memory will forever be a source of inspiration and strength for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
