Dave's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David "Dave" McCray II, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dave was born on May 31, 1973, and departed this life on July 20, 2024. Renowned for his outgoing and caring personality, Dave never failed to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. His legacy, marked by devotion and an incomparable spirit of giving, will not soon be forgotten.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Debra McCray; his cherished daughter, Siera Brooke McCray; and his precious granddaughter, Dakota Belle Needham. His mother, Mary Palguta; stepfather, David Palguta; and sibling, David Palguta Jr., also mourn his loss. Dave leaves behind two sisters, Nicole McCray and Angel Burke, whose love for him knew no bounds. He was predeceased by his father, David McCray, and his brother, Robert McCray.
A committed member of the American Legion, he devoted much of his time and energy to causes that he cared deeply about, particularly the American Legion. Dave very much enjoyed spending his leisure time at the American Legion Post 242, and many fondly remember him zipping around town on his custom Harley, often with his best friend of 35 years, Kevin Campbell, riding alongside.
Known jokingly to some as having "a few screws loose," what Dave truly embodied was a spirit of unity. He frequently imparted the wisdom, "can't we all just get along?" to those around him. He was a father figure to many, including Tyler Jewett, who deeply appreciated his guidance.
His professional achievements included establishing his own business, D&D Handyman. However, he always maintained that his biggest accomplishment was his family. His undying love for his wife, daughter, and granddaughter was clear for all to see. Dave was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. His loss has left family and friends completely at a loss for words.
To know Dave was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. As we remember Dave, let us keep in our hearts his caring nature, his jovial spirit, and his unwavering devotion to his family, his causes, and his community.
